Who is Tir na nOg?

TNN Irish dancing school Germany

Established in 1994 as the “Mary Murray School of dance”, Tir na nOg is a school of Irish dance based in Munich & Kaiserslautern with occasional classes and workshops given in Wurzberg and Dresden. Our school name means “Land of the forever young” and we encourage dancers of any age to come and join the fun learning the traditional art of Irish dance.

Our school and its teachers are registered and affiliated with “Coimisiun le Rince Gaelacha” - The Commission of Irish Dancing, the largest governing body of Irish dancing world-wide. The CLRG sets the highest standards for teachers, adjudicators and dancers alike. Mary Sweeny was the first resident in Germany to pass the TCRG exam with the commission and Shane McAvinchey also has passed his TCRG exam. To date we are the only school in Germany with two fully qualified TCRG instructors.

At Tir na nOg we have classes for people aged 4yrs to 104yrs! We encourage all of our dancers to take part in Feisanna as we believe it is crucial to the development of the dancer to travel to competitions, see other great dancers and have a goal to work for. We also have a great interest in teaching Ceili teams as we believe this builds up a great knowledge and understanding of team work and team loyalty. We follow the guidelines for Ceili instruction as contained in the “Ceili Bible” ‘Ar Rinci Foirne’.

Of course dancers who have no desire to compete and who just want to have fun, get fit, socialise and perhaps take part in some of our events are extremely welcome and receive the same fine dance instruction as other more competitive dancers.

Tir na nOg dancers are also available to perform live at any of your events – Weddings, corporate functions, special events etc…We can tailor a show especially to suit your event, Just contact us!
